Very nice early 1900s pocket knife made by Hibbard Spencer and Bartlett of Chicago.

This is a great early American jackknife. The handles are or Cocobolo and have no chips or cracks. There are a lot of dings/scratches commensurate with age. The pile side has some deep lines that I can’t tell if they are a part of the woodgrain or not. Overall, the wooden handles are in pretty good condition for a knife that is probably 100 years old. The shield is nickel silver, and has a gorgeous patina on it that could be removed if you choose to do so.

Blades are in good condition. The main blade has a pole, which is very attractive and a nice patina. It is quite sharp and has no wobble and great snap in all three positions. The very end of the blade is slightly rounded towards the tip and sticks out of the handle about 1 mm when closed. Not enough to catch your finger on the pen blade is in good condition and is marked “HSB & Co Chicago” above a diamond. It retains its blade shape and like the main blade has no wobble and has great snap and all three positions.

Closed length: 3-3/16”

Open length: 5-9/16”

Blade length: 2-7/16”

A very nice early pocket knife that would make a great addition to anyone’s collection or a perfect carry knife!!
