Germany Halle /Saale pewter medal THE HUNGER YEAR 1846 & HARVEST BLESSING 1847 - Collector's high grade!

This large 42mm pewter medal was struck in 1847 by noted German medalist Heinrich Lorenz to commemorate the hunger year of 1846/47 in Halle an der Saale and the harvest blessing of 1847.

 

Obverse: Starving family around an empty table surrounded by biblical verses / unser täglich brod uns heut! (our daily bread today!)

Reverse: Entrance of a decorated harvest wagon with thankful farmer family in front of it / nun danket alle gott (Now everyone thank God)

 

Condition: Collector’s high grade with pleasing uncleaned patina and trace mint lustre.
