The production of Huggies nappies in Australia came to an end in April 2019. The Huggies plant in Ingleburn, Sydney, which had been operating since 1988, was closed down. The manufacturing of these beloved nappies was moved to Asian countries such as China and Korea as part of Kimberly-Clark Australia’s global restructuring program. Unfortunately, this move resulted in the loss of approximately 220 jobs1.

Despite the shift in production, many parents fondly remember Huggies for its quality. The decision to discontinue local manufacturing was met with disappointment by workers and consumers alike. The union representing the workers expressed concern about maintaining Australian safety standards when nappies are produced in countries with lower safety standards
