This characterful 3/4 size violin was most likely made in the first half of the 20th century
Violin dimensions
The full length of this violin is 22 inches (55 & 1/2 cm) The back (body) length is 337mm.
This antique Bohemia (Saxony/German/Czechia) violin is perhaps most suited to a child around 11 of age smaller than average teenager or adult who is unlikely to be suited to playing a full size violin.
I would rate this violin as suitable for a beginner to intermediate Grade 5 Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) violin student.
- The violin (as the photographs show) has had historic cracks repaired in the past. These remain completely closed and very securely glued. The repair scars add a lot of antique unique character to the instrument's appearance.
- The violin has no open seams or open cracks and the bass bar and sound post are all as they should be - perfectly sound.
- This instrument has a nice even tone across the strings and a warm vintage sound. Both treble and bass side are sweet and quite strong.
- A brand new set of Dominant (synthetic core) strings have been added
- The violin has an A-Fils vintage bridge and a full set of fine tuners on its ebony tail piece.
- An antique wooden case is included - that has seen better days but it well suited for storing the violin at home as opposed to carrying the instrument around outside,
Clearly the violin has been played a great deal and has numerous age related nicks, scruff, dings and scratches and historic repairs as the photographs show. It is for sale at a bargain price for someone who wants a good student violin for the way it sounds rather than the way it looks.
This lovely old "survivor violin" is ready to play right out of the case and is far better in my personal opinion to all the modern Chinese student violins that I have played. And I've played a lot of those.
Please note that no bow is included in this sale.
