HISTORY:
The legend of Russell Moccasin began in 1898 when Will Russell created his first handmade boots.
Hunters soon realized the value of Russell's shoes, and a legend was born.
For 103 years Russell Moccasin has been making Russell boots on Franklin Street in Berlin, Wisconsin.
These famous hunting boots have been worn by many different people.
Some of them were worn by former U.S. President Eisenhauer, the King of Nepal, and Hollywood stars Harrison Ford and Robert Redford.
The name W.C. Russell Moccasin has been synonymous with quality for 103 years.

In the 1920s, Bill Gustin joined Russell Moccasin as a salesman. Mr. Gustin introduced Russell's comfortable, handcrafted moccasin boots to the world.

In 1924, W.C. Russell passed away. Gustin bought Russell Moccasin because he liked Russell's products so much that he did not want to give up the company.

In the 1930s, he began introducing Russell Bird Shooters, Oxfords, loafers, and casual shoes, which are still made today.

Bill Gustin owned and operated Russell for 55 of his 103 years.
In 1956, Mr. Gustin began working with his brother-in-law, Ralph Fabricius.
Mr. Gustin passed away in 1994 at the age of 95.
From that time to the present Russell Moccasin has been managed by Ralph Fabricius.

Russell's policy is to keep the company small in order to produce quality, handmade products.
If we were to grow, we would be no different than any other shoe supplier. We cannot mass produce because we need the support of experienced craftsmen to fulfill special orders.

Today, Russell Moccasin is still made the same way it was 103 years ago.
Each pair of shoes is handmade, cut, trimmed, and hand-stitched with the same high quality and attention to detail.

Over the past few years, Fabricius and outdoor enthusiast Richard Sanders have introduced a new line of boots to the Russell line.
With special new waterproof leathers and soles sewn with a special coating, they are a great design for the avid sportsman's closet:
The wide selection of exotic shoes and boots includes the High Country Hunter, The South 40 Birdshooter, Turkey Hunter, Safari PH and the Art Carter Traveling Sportsman Chukka.
Leathers include ostrich, shark and hippopotamus.
Ike Walton, the model for High Country Hunter, The South 40 Birdshooter, and Turkey Hunter, was Russell Moccasin's premier boot from the 1920s and 1930s. The Ike Walton was also the boot that W.C. Russell himself recommended.

The difference between Russell and other companies is that Russell not only custom fits boots and shoes, but also hand-molds and makes them entirely by hand.
If a customer's foot is different from the normal shoe shape, we make and file a shoe shape for that customer, so the fitting is always the same and the waiting time is reduced.
