The Bouches-du-Rhône department is located in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. Its inhabitants are called Bucco-Rhodaniens. Bouches-du-Rhône was created during the French Revolution on Mars 4, 1790 in application of the law of December 22, 1789, from part of the province of Provence and a few principalities (Orange, Martigues, Lambesc). The capital of the new department was then Aix, a city which previously housed the parliament of Provence. In 1793, the department lost the entire part of its territory located north of the Durance during the creation of the department of Vaucluse, which included, in addition to Avignon and Comtat Venaissin, Orange and Apt. Main cities: Marseille, Aix-en-Provencerles, Martigues, Aubagne, Salon-de-Provence, Istres, La Ciotat, Vitrolles, Marignane, Miramas, Allauch, Les Pennes-Mirabeau, Gardanne, Port-de-Bouc, Fos-sur -sea, Châteaurenard, Tarascon ...
