  • Description: A nice Choice Very Fine five pounds banknote from Malawi. This is the first issue note based on the Reserve Bank of Malawi Act of 1964. The note is blue and brown in color on multicolored underprint. It depicts the image of Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda, the president of Malawi in the period 1961-1994 to the left of the front. The front also has the image of fishermen on a boat on lake Malawi. The note is signed by the Governor of the Reserve Bank of Malawi at the time of issue. The back of the note depicts the image of tea pickers and has a water mark depicting a rooster. This particular note is undated and has the serial number A398604. The note is graded as Choice Very Fine 35 by PMG and comes in a plastic holder so labeled. Please carefully review the scans presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

  • Size: The banknotes measure ~6 1/4" by ~3 1/2".

  • Pick Number: P4 and is listed in the Banknote Book as B104a.

  • Condition: The banknote is graded by PMG as 35 Choice Very fine and comes in a plastic holder so labeled. It shows some light soiling, vertical folds and some light bumps here and there. The corners are relatively squared and intact with some minor bumps and some rounding. The note has some light roughness along the edges and some minor nicks especially along the bottom edge, but has no tears, splits, or pinholes. It is graffiti free and retains its vivid coloring. A great example of this rare banknote that seldom comes in such a good grade. Please see the photos for additional condition information.
