Chatsworth Head of Apollo Reproduction Greek Sculpture, The British Museum Exclusive Design

An incredible reproduction of the famous Chatsworth Apollo Head,
depicting  Apollo the ancient Greek god of music and poetry
son of Zeus and Leto, and twin brother of Artemis.
linked to the oracles of Delphi and closely associated with the sun.

The piece is moulded from the original bronze head discovered by peasants i1876 in Tamassos, Cyprus,
part of an early Classical Greek-style statue of Apollo produced around the 5th century BC.
Later excavations revealed the site to be a sanctuary dedicated to Apollo.
The body unfortunately broke apart as it was excavated, but the head was preserved.
It was owned for many years as part of the Chatsworth House collection by the Duke of Devonshire,
before it was donated with many other pieces to where it is now housed in The British Museum.

This is one of a small number produced, beautifully cast in Jesmonite resin,
hand cast and finished in the UK, crafted exclusively for the British Museum, more details can
be found on the British Museum website.

A magnificent ornament for any lover of ancient Greek art,
and excellently reproduces the feel and appearance of the original,
with a neutral black block forming the stabilising base,
and featuring fibre pad feet beneath to allow placement on any surface.

The piece measures approximately 40 x 23 x 27 cm's (H x W x D).
and weighing approximately 5.92 Kg.

As shown in the pictures the piece is in excellent condition,
there is perhaps a little residue from cleaning on the base,
but otherwise appears to be almost perfect.

This piece is one of two similar pieces, details of the other may be found on our shop.
