HOW COULD INDIANS AND SAILORS

HAVE A WAR?

PACIFIC NORTHWEST SHIPS & BAD INDIANS (rare)

As you know, I specialize in finding rarely reported stories and histories that have seldom been seen or read. Here is a fascinating story entitled Bad Water and Bad Indians by T. W. Patterson who uses his old photo collection to supplement the text. This is really a remarkable story of ships plying British Columbia's Graveyard of the Pacific. Author says that the wild storms and currents and reefs were tough to get around in but reports there was day when the ship and sailors worst enemies were Indians.

NOW WHOEVER HEARD

OF INDIANS ON THE HIGH SEA!!.

Here is a detailed history of Indian attacks on the ships and sailor of this area. Starting when a member of the crew of the British Trading Ship Imperial Eagle landed off the Washington Coast and was killed. Then in 1794, Haida Indians murdered all but one man of the crew of the Boston Schooner Resolution. There follows recital of attack after attack by Haida , Nootkas, Chief Maquinna, *Cowichan, Kyuquot, Lamalchis, Na-kwak-to, Ahousats, Hesquiats, Owekano and Kitimats Indians upon crews and ships *HMS Forward, Phoenix, Resolution, Imperial Eagle, * HMS Grappler, *Boston, Atahualpa, Tonquin, HMS Daedalus, Brig Una, Cadboro,Company Steamer Beaver, HMS Trincomalee, Birg Swiss Boy, HMS Satellite, HMS Forward, Trader Laurel, HMS Petrel, American Steamer George S. Wright, Lincoln, HMS Devestation, HMS Cameleon, Schooner Torndyke, Schooner Nanaimo Packet, HMS Petrel, HMS Rocket, U.S. Revenue Cuter Lincoln, Sloop Trader, HMS Sutlej. Sloop Kingfisher, Corvet Clio, Schooner Growler, Sloop Thornton, British Bark John Bright, HMS Sparrowhawk
Of course, the fact that the Indians were merely protecting their lands is not mentioned.

THEY WERE ALWAYS THE CULPRIT.
