Stunning Art Deco Bimini Glass Button - Full Marks - Orplid Lucie Rie Interest
A stunning glass button from the Art Deco period made by Biminii Ltd. As you can see this button is a emerald green glass with gold colouring, note the back brass plate has the plant pot mark impressed along with 'Bimini Ltd'.
Bimini was started by Fritz Lampl (born in Vienna in 1892) by renting a basement and employing a glass-blower together with his brother-in-law and designed fantasy shapes on glass. Eventually as the business grew the flowerpot logo was designed, craftsmen employed and a workshop set up. Bimini won several prizes at the 1925 Paris Exhibition, also exhibiting at various other shows throughout Europe and the US. However, the rise of Nazism in Austria meant it was no longer safe for Jews to live and work there and in 1938 Fritz was forced to flee with his wife to the UK.
In 1938 Fritz relaunched his venture in Soho, London under the new name Orplid. In 1940 Fritz and his wife were interned as enemy aliens (along with thousands of other refugees) and when released several months later he was to find his Soho premises flattened by enemy bombing. Undeterred, he started again, this time focusing on smaller objects such as buttons, brooches and hat pin tops.
He also employed ceramicist and potter, Lucie Rie, to make small ornaments, buttons etc, so this would be of interest to collectors of Lucie Rie.
Measurements: 2.75cm x 3cm wide / high.
Condition: fairly good with minimal surface wear, loop on back a little bent - please see all photos which form part of the condition report.
Weight without packing: 9g - this will be packaged in a small box.

UK Postage
All UK posting is sent via Royal Mail 1st Class Recorded (included in P & P quoted), for tracking purposes only. Further postal options are available (e.g. Special Delivery, ParcelForce) and I am happy to meet your specific requirements upon request.
Your parcel will fall into one of three categories dependant on measurement of the parcel and weight:
Small Parcel: not exceeding length 45cm, width 35cm and depth 16cm - weight limit 2kg.
Medium Parcel: not exceeding length 61cm, width 46cm, depth 46cm - weight limit 20kg.
Large Parcel: not exceeding 2.5m length and 5m length and girth combined, the weight restriction in this category is 30kg and service provided by Parcelforce Worldwide.
For rolled and cylinder shaped parcels: the length of the item plus twice the diameter must not exceed 104cm, with the greatest dimension being no more than 90cm.
Overseas Postage
Overseas shipping is via Airmail International Tracked & Signed or International Tracked whichever is applicable to your shipping country and this cost is included in the P & P fee quoted.
Please note that this is the only method of shipping overseas used in order to comply with Ebay Sellers Protection (i.e shipping with tracking).
