Sacramento, California: Jelly bean fancier Governor Ronald Reagan tries a sample from one of several jars in his Sacramento Capitol office where the candy is an every-day word. The California Republican chief executive says he got in the jelly bean chewing habit during his acting days in Hollywood when he stopped smoking and used the candy for a substitute. Observers say even at cabinet meetings in his office when a debate on serious issues of the state are really intense, "you can look down the table and see the governor and the cabinet members passing the jelly bean jar."
