2017 Falkland Islands Coloured Northern Rockhopper Penguin Colorized 50p Coin

NGC graded as a MS68 DPL (Deep Proof Like) there are not many higher graded examples out there in the wild.

Limited Issued 3200

Extremely rare ERROR 50p coin depicting the Northern Rockhopper Penguin, instead of depicting the Southern Rockhopper Penguin.

As you may know or not, the Northern Rockhopper penguin was only been sighted in the Falkland Islands on a handful of occasions, therefore , is not considered being native to Falkland Islands. That's the main reason why they the production of this coin stopped at 3,200 pieces, being replaced with the native Southern Rockhopper Penguin in the pobjoy 2017 penguins 5 coin set

Following approval from the Government of the Falkland Islands, the coins where allowed to be distributed, which amounted to around 3,200 pieces allready struck at the time. The certs actually say 7500, another error by pobjoy (was this whole scenario a very clever marketing ploy to drum up sales for the launch of the first ever penguins set ?, we will let you decide, all we know is it worked, causing a collecting frenzy & prices on the secondary market to rocket at the time.)
