Peleus and Thetis Ancient Greek Pottery T-Shirt Red Figure Black Attic Art

This image is actually taken from a 19th Century drawing based on an authentic Ancient Greek kylix (this was chosed because the more modern one is in better condition), depicting Peleus grabbing on tight to Thetis, the sea nymph goddess, as she shape-shifts from water, to fire, to lion to serpent. Peleus holds on until Thetis agrees to marry the mortal man, and the son that Thetis will bear from this union will be the great Achilles. Just like Leda and the Swan bring about Helen of Troy, this moment foreshadows the great war in Troy with the birth of one of its heroes.
