Lot: 1 x 6" Action Figures (SIB) Sealed in Box

Medieval Spawn #10103 J-Hook Bolted to Back

SPAWN (McFarlane Toys) 1994

Medieval Spawn marked his debut in this first series of Spawn toys. This figure, representing Sir John of York, a knight from the 16th century who becomes a Hellspawn, stands out with its intricate armor design and comes equipped with a sword and shield, featuring a rotating blade. The figure boasts seven points of articulation, allowing for dynamic posing, and includes removable shoulder pads and cape. Over the years, Medieval Spawn has become a significant character in the Spawn universe. Once a knight who reveled in the brutality of war, Sir John's life took a tragic turn when he and his comrades, misinterpreting the king's words, mistakenly killed the Archbishop of Canterbury. This act led to his untimely death on an Irish battlefield, betrayed by the king's bodyguards as he sought forgiveness. In the depths of Hell, Sir John struck a bargain with the demon Malebolgia, becoming a Hellspawn and returning to Earth clad in symbiotic armor. His return was not to the time he left but to a future where he discovered his own grave. Haunted by his past and seeking redemption, Medieval Spawn roamed England, performing good deeds. His quest for salvation was cut short by Angela, a celestial warrior hunting Hellspawns. Despite his demise, Medieval Spawn's tale did not end; he was resurrected in modern times, continuing his eternal struggle between the forces of Heaven and Hell.

The first wave of Spawn action figures, released in 1994, marked a significant moment in the collectibles market, particularly for comic book enthusiasts and figure collectors. Crafted by McFarlane Toys, these figures were based on characters from Todd McFarlane's Spawn comic series, which debuted in 1992. The initial lineup included iconic characters such as Spawn himself, with his distinctive red cape and white eyes, and other memorable characters like Violator, Clown, and Overkill. Each figure was designed with a keen attention to detail, capturing the essence of McFarlane's gritty artwork, and they often came packaged with accessories and a comic book, adding value for collectors.
