SEIGAIHA(blue ocean waves)

A pattern in which some of the concentric circles overlap in a fan shape and repeat like a wave.
Similar patterns have been around the world for a long time, and it is said that they were transmitted from the continent to Japan. This name is derived from the gagaku dance "Qinghai wave", and the costumes of dancers in the Edo period have a four-tiered corrugated pattern. In Japan, this name is used because it resembles a wave swaying in the calm ocean, and it is also one of the congratulatory patterns.
Kanshichi, who was active during the Genroku era (1688-1704), founded Qinghai Nami-nuri. The Qinghai wave coating method is a method of applying a thin layer of squeezed lacquer and drawing a wave pattern with a sawtooth-shaped spatula or a brush made of ingot or brass while it is still dry. So I painted it on lacquer ware and sword braces. At that time, the Qinghai wave as a design became popular and was applied to dyeing and pottery. He was called Aomi Kanshichi and became the catalyst for the widespread use of this pattern in the world of crafts.
In addition, various variations such as Kikuseikainami and Hanaseikainami appeared in the Edo period, and the colors used are not only blue, which is reminiscent of waves, but also various colors. As an interior decoration, it has been used for fusuma paper for a long time.
