Up for sale is a pretty cool helmet. This is a mid 1800s Japanese fire helmet. The helmet itself is made from a paper mache process and then lacquered over. The neck guard as shown is made of straw, and then what feels like plates sewn into it. The silk string has broken in two spots as shown, but is still connected. Very rare and cool piece. It looks like it's probably made around the 1850s or so based on research. The helmets prior to this were often made of iron or brass. Very cool piece for any collector!
