The General's Ring
"A tale of jealousy and revenge from beyond the grave, as a stolen ring brings suffering and violent death to innocent and guilty alike until it is restored to its rightful owner in his tomb." "
Here the seed is sown for the curse that rests on Lagerlöf's trilogy with consequences for the two following parts of the novel: Charlotte Löwensköld and Anna Svärd."

Charlotte Löwensköld:
"Charlotte
Löwensköld works in the rectory on Korsyka. There she met the young assistant priest Karl-Artur Ekenstedt and became engaged to him; ready to live a life full of hardships. But the rich mine owner Schlagerström is also in love with Charlotte and asks for her hand in marriage. Charlotte refuses because she loves Karl-Artur, but due to some misunderstandings, Karl-Artur is forced to break off the engagement between the two. Charlotte desperately tries to convince Karl-Artur of her love and not to be influenced by his humiliations."

Anna Svärd:
"The main characters are the young priest Karl Artur Ekenstedt and his wife, Anna Svärd, whom he considers to have received God's command to marry, this after his relationship with Charlotte Löwensköld was broken. The story also weaves in many episodes alongside the action - fairy tales and folk tales - in Lagerlöf's characteristic narrative style."

A fine addition for your bookshelf!

Condition: Corner tips worn through and a little fraying at spine ends, cover a bit soiled, former owner's impressed stamp in the front, does not appear to have been a library book but something was pasted and removed from the rear endpaper, some smudges to the title page and a damp stain on the upper page margin of approximately the last third of the book, overall in good-minus condition with a solid binding and clean pages.

About Us:

Rivendell Antiquarian Books sells used rare, vintage and collectable books predominantly from pre 1970. We have been sellers of antiquarian books for over 20 years, and our experience helps ensure quality descriptions of our rare and collectable books. Be assured that we want your experience with Rivendell Antiquarian Books to be enjoyable and problem free.

We believe that it is a travesty to simply throw away a used book when there is little or nothing wrong with it - we believe in giving each book the chance of finding a new home. We appreciate the impact a good book can have. We know the excitement of a new page turner, or the familiar joy of an old favorite, and we find satisfaction in putting older, and often scarce books in the hands of people who have the same love for old books that we do.

Customer Service:

Rivendell Antiquarian Books is committed to ensuring each customer is entirely satisfied with their puchase and our service. If you have any issues or concerns please contact us and we will be more than happy to help.

Our books have been inspected carefully by hand by experienced book valuers to ensure the condition description is as accurate as possible for this exact copy pictured. If you have questions about the book before or after purchasing, please feel free to contact us!

Packaging:

We take pride in packaging our books for safe delivery, and if you check our feedback, you will see this reflected in the comments of many pleased customers. For nearly all of our books, we use a specially designed boxing system from IPS (Inovative Packaging Solutions) located in York, PA. These media shipping boxes are designed to conform to the size of the book, securing it and preventing it from bumping around during shipping. The end result is a box which provides a double thickness of cardboard covering the front and back of the book; actually almost like a box within a box. The outer layer of cardboard extends beyond the ends of the inner "box" which very efficiently protects the corners of the book from being bumped and damaged by the sometimes rough handling packages receive in transit. In addition we place the book in a plastic bag to help guard against moisture if a package is left out in the elements.

Delivery:

We aim to get all books shipped within 24 hours of order except on weekends. We can't control the delivery time once a book leaves our hands, but most of the time USPS is prompt in delivery, and the expected delivery time given by eBay is usually fairly accurate. Because we use media mail to keep costs down, it does take a little longer for delivery, and occasionally packages get delayed in the mail system. If for some reason your order has not arrived within the expected time frame, please get in contact with us so that we can try to help you.
