Rare Pair of Antique Victorian Bohemian Czech Franz Welz Textured Spatter Glass Milk Jugs c1890

Here on offer is a gorgeous pair of antique splatter glass milk jugs by the Czech maker Franz Welz, dating to c1890.

The Franz Welz, also known as Antonienhutte, glassworks was founded in Bohemia in 1728 and was in production until the late 1930s. Welz was noted for a wide range of colourful glass, including splatter and tango glass.

This is a pair of gorgeous 1890's Bohemian plum red, green, yellow and white blown glass jugs, made using a technique known as "Splatter" or "Spatter"  glass, there is also aventurine inclusions in the green glass that sparkle. The glass is hand blown in opaque white to enhance the colour, then rolled in coloured glass to create the effect and finally encased in clear glass, with an applied handle. The clear glass that encases the jug has an unusual textured surface that combines shallow diamonds and vertical ribs all in relief. This creates a wonderful dynamic effect when reflecting the light.

This gorgeous pair of jugs are offered in good antique condition, they measure approx. 15.3cm tall by 11.5cm at the widest point.

This pair of jugs would make a great addition to a themed collection.
