This fur was not created by me. I purchased it a while back from another collector. It's so pretty! It's genuine Mink in a gorgeous shade of pink with darker pink inserts. The mink, although vintage, is in great condition. There are no closures, the lining is black and it fits Barbie and other dolls of similar size perfectly. It has a tag from the Hudson's Bay Company, Fur Salon. Original price in the 90's was $249, on sale for $129. That's the price I also paid.
Purchasing this Barbie mink, is like buying a little piece of Canadian history. The Hudson's Bay Company, founded in 1670, was a fur trading business for most of it's history, a past that is entwined with the colonization of British North America and the development of Canada. The Fur Salon carried the finest quality fur garments and accessories. By the start of 1991 Hudson's Bay was apparently finding out that fur was not flying off its shelves as it used to, and in January 30th of the that year it announced it would be selling off its remaining stock, and eventually closing its Fur Salon.
