During the months known as the Period of Appeasement, the Allies tried to avoid warfare by giving in to the demands of Hitler for areas that had German populations. In this manner, the German forces gained control of part of Czechoslovakia; they later seized the rest. Czechoslovakia was divided into the new countries of Bohemia-Moravia and Slovakia; additional parts of Czechoslovakia were absorbed into Germany itself. After the war, these areas were recombined into Czechoslovakia.

In 1947, nearly 40% of the original mintage was melted down by the Czechoslovak National Bank.

The coins certainly serve as an unusual yet inexpensive souvenir of World War II.
