1945 Press Photo Heliarc Welding Process at Northrop Aircraft Company
Hawthorne, California: Any good arc-welder can learn the Heliarc process in one easy lesson. Northrop technicians, like Howard Eubank (left) show the welder the how to regulate his arc and the flow of helium gas which bathes the weld, then give him a test piece to weld. the Heliarc torch, which bathes the weld in a constant flow it now has of helium gas, is a Northrop process originally designed to make possible the welding of magnesium. Been found to apply equally well to other metals. Northrop Aircraft Company Photo measures 10.5 x 8.5 inches. Photo Is dated 1945.
