The "Power Mac G4 Cube" officially known as the Apple Power Mac G4/500 Cube, boasts a 500 MHz PowerPC 7400 or 7410 (G4) processor, complete with the AltiVec "Velocity Engine" vector processor and a 1 MB backside cache. Initially, it came with 128 MB of RAM, a 30 GB Ultra ATA/66 hard drive, a slot-loading 5X DVD-ROM drive, and an ATI Rage 128 Pro graphics card with 16 MB of SDRAM on a 2X AGP slot, retailing at US$2299. Options for customization included AirPort (802.11b) support, along with various hard drives and graphics cards.

The Power Macintosh G4/450 Cube was available through retailers, however this version, the Power Macintosh G4/500 Cube was only sold directly through Apple

Unlike the larger Power Macintosh G4 (Gigabit) models of the time, which featured PCI slots, a full-length AGP slot, four RAM slots, and four drive bays, the compact Power Mac G4 Cube lacks these features. It has no PCI slots, a shortened AGP slot, only three RAM slots, and a single drive bay. Additionally, it omits analog audio inputs and outputs, opting instead to use USB for audio output. Despite these differences, it still delivers substantial power in a sleek eight-inch cube design. For maintenance and upgrades, the cube's internal housing easily slides out from the bottom, allowing access to its components.
