Beautiful and rare Japanese  Ako  Dantsu, cotton carpet.  Excellent example of unique Japanese carpet industry, can be used as it is in a  good shape.    <ZE38> 

Little known outside of Japan, this carpets  were always reserved for a wealthy society of Samurai Lords or  well to do merchants in early days. Traditionally carpets were made of same size as tatami mats and were often displayed in treasured tea rooms or meeting halls of the elite.

Ako Dantsu carpets were made from cotton threads and became known for its subtle beauty and softness and also tolerance to high humidity conditions.

Ako Dantsu was invented by a woman who was moved by the beauty of Chinese textiles after nearly 30 years of trial and error. The delicate patterns and soft texture caught the attention of Emperor Meiji and at one point they expanded their sales channels overseas.
