Publication: Munchen: Verlag K. Th. Senger, 1911

Description: Very Good.

München: Verlag K. Th. Senger, [1911-1913]. First Editions with various limitations (see below). Three volumes in multiple formats:

I. Limited to 500 copies of which this is no. 280. Quarto (29cm.); publisher's gilt-stamped art vellum and paper chemise containing title page bifolium with list of contents and twelve (12) bookplate prints, each housed separately in its own stiff grey mount.

II. Limited to 500 copies of which this is no. 274. Same format as above, containing twenty (20) bookplate samples.

III. Limited to 260 copies of which this is no. 54. Octavo (26cm.); publisher's gilt-stamped art vellum and marbled paper clamshell box containing title page bifolium and content list as well as twelve loose bookplate designs (unmounted).

Chemises all a bit scuffed, most especially that of Vol. III whose vellum is also noticeably spotted, though all contents remain in fine condition. Very Good overall.

Complete suite of three bookplate portfolios from the Austrian artist Franz von Bayros (1866-1924), known for blending a Decadent sensibility with a commercial output. In the same year that the first volume was published, Bayros also brought out his "Tales from the Dressing Table," a series of erotic prints for which he was arrested in his adopted country Germany. His exile back to Austria is evident in the shrinking format and cheaper materials used in the final volume of this collection.

Scarce both on the market and OCLC, the latter listing just four examples in libraries in the United States as of May, 2024.
