The Prisoners' Friend was, according to contemporary sources, the only publication of its time advocating for prison reform and the abolition of the death penalty. This issue discusses the cases of James Clough and David Dempster, as well as discussions on the state of New York prisons and the treatment of discharged prisoners. Scarce in retail.
