• JADEN SPRINGER IS 21 and quite possibly second best defensive prospect in the NBA right now after Wemby.  Better than Cason Wallace.

While on the 76ers this year, Jaden showed NBA 1st team All-Defense potential.  I have never actually seen anybody play lock-down on-ball defense like him.  He defends like a player is posting him up from the backcourt. He fights through every screen and exhausts the primary 1-3 that tries to move off ball to get open.

Springer is already a great offensive rebounder. He will be elite. Players bounce off Springer because he is so strong+solid, and has such a low center of gravity.  Have an example for you:

Sixers v Jazz Feb 1, 2024 (Maxey 51 point game at Utah)  In the 2nd Half, a loose ball goes up in the air between half court and the logos.  Springer jumps after the ball just after Kelly Olynick does from a little further away. Olynick gets to the ball first because he is closer and lands.  Springer, giving up 6 inches and at least 50 pounds, goes to land in the same spot as Kelly and their calves meet.  Olynick bounced off 6'4 210LB Springer.

He is a better defensive prospect than Matisse Thybulle was and is still younger.  If you did not watch the injury-devastated Sixers prior to the trade deadline this year, you would not have been a witness.  He needs to work on finishing + his shooting release speed, but the guy is a mid-80's% FT shooter. He works his tail off and will.  Springer was Tyrese Maxey's rookie. He has practiced and learned an NBA work ethic from Tyrese Maxey, so will continue to make noticeable differences when given the PT.

The Tyrese Maxey Work Ethic Tree is a real thing.  Isaiah Joe, Paul Reed, Ricky Council are all guys either drafted in the 50's or were undrafted.  All get better every year (less BBall these playoffs) because they learned Summer planning from Maxey.  Jaden was a 1st round pick. He is only 21.
