A 19th century or later oxblood Langyao glazed archaistic formed miniature vase. The vases of this type of size and form were used as scholarly decorative object for the literati class.

The Langyao glaze, or Oxblood/Sang De Boeuf glaze, are extremely demanding in the porcelain production process. Only in the extremely narrow window of temperature and atmosphere, will the copper glaze oxidize to produce this rich and vibrant ruby red color.

This object is a fine example of the copper red glaze with subtle and gradual shades of changing colors that are symbolic to the uncertain nature of the glaze firing process.
