1969 Press Photo Water bumpers being tested on taxi cabs in Washington, D.C.

This is an original press photo. Washington - Government and industry representatives watched a demonstration of "water" bumpers here 10/24 as one taxi cab crashed into the back of another at the speed of 15 miles per hour. The impact absorbing safety device has produced a 56 per cent decrease in accident repair and related costs for a fleet of 267 taxicabs during a 6-month, 7,000,000 mile test under actual operating conditions.
