DEATH ON THE BUTTERFIELD TRAIL

RARE INDIAN GENEALOGY

AND FORT RICHARDSON HISTOY

How amazed I was to find this Fort Richardson story which is frankly, unbelievable but true. Read below about one of our greatest Generals.

General William Tecumseh Sherman was lucky to escape death.

Here is the amazing true story that happened right in my back yard yet I had never found it. It was just laying gathering dust on a book dealer’s shelf entitled “Death On the Butterfield Trail.”

Union Hero General William Tecumseh Sherman came to Texas because he didn’t believe the stories of the wild tales of Indian atrocities. He headed for Fort Richardson from Galveston. Indian leader Maman-ti lay in wait with hundreds of braves. Consulting his oracle, he received a message to attack the second of the parties. Thus, General Sherman was allowed to proceed but the second party led by ten mule drawn wagons was attacked and slaughtered. The report by Assistant Surgeon J. H. Patzki of the U. S. Army to Col. Randal S. Mackenzie of the Fourth Cavalry is printed here in all its gory detail. Sherman went after the Indian chiefs but was surprised to find they had already been rounded up and placed in custody at Fort Sill, Indian Territory. Proud of their success, the Indian Chiefs admitted being responsible for the Warren Wagon Train Massacre. Sherman then brought them back to Jacksborough, Texas to stand trial. There follows a recital of the trial at the District Court of Weatherford, Texas before Charles Stewart, Honorable Judge of the Thirteenth Judicial District Court of the State of Texas. Here, the recording of the events, petitions, procedures and results of the trial that opened on July 1, 1871, the result of which brought bloodshed on the settlers of the area for many years to come.

Please read this. There were many a western story published – the common ones about Cowboys and Indians are listed on Ebay every day but the rarer ones about the pioneers of the old west like this one are seldom found. Collectors treasure them and their price guide value rises every day. They are hard to find. I hunt them out because really the better, untold and rarer stories were published in the rest.

Here’s one of ‘em.

Following my retirement, I have dedicated my remaining hours to indexing the Genealogy of our western pioneers. During my research, I discovered that thousands of our kinfolk lay unfound and unrecognized on some book dealer’s shelf. Because Old Western History and Memorabilia was printed before computer indexing, I index every item I sell.

This complete index will be bound and included in this offering at no additional cost.

Humbly, I am trying to keep our history alive

I hope you appreciate the effort.

DEATH ON THE BUTTERFIELD TRAIL

Folks, sooner or later - Genealogists are going to realize that their family kinfolks are laying on some dealer's dusty shelves. If I can contribute to finding one little name or photo of that long lost ancestor you have been waiting to find, it's worth all the time I spend. As a tribute to the honor of our American Soldiers, Western Pioneers and native American Indians, my indexed listings will include all names mentioned in the story from this time on.

DEATH ON THE BUTTERFIELD TRAIL

While others clip ads from magazines, I save history. It’s a shame that our past is being lost. It’s as simple as that.

What a story, Rare Story!!! Great Pictures. You will love it as it was published in this old complete western magazine of many years ago – this is one that is hard to find and should be treasured as it will go up in value just as a good antiquie. It is Volume 1 Number 1 of an extremely hard to find old western. As a matter of fact, I had lost this issue but after search, I found it. The issue is in great condition, the cover is in vibrant color.

As clearly stated in my description, this is featured story in a rarely found and seldom read unusual and complete western magazine. I don't give out name of p
