“AMERICAN” Brand, Apple
Mark Tinsky & Curt Rollar
EARLY - REG No 1084/*Z 7
Straight Grain, Near Mint!

Here’s an early pipe from “American” Brand from the USA. The brand has pipes carved mostly by Mark Tinsky or Curt Rollar, of the American Smoking Pipe Co. Currently, Mark Tinsky is the only one still producing American pipes. This one is early, when they still used the REG. No stamping, and it doesn’t credit the make to either carver. You can see my composite photo below, showing both Mark and Curt.
The stamping indicates the dating and who the carver was, but this one is stamped 1084/*Z 7, which I think indicates it was made in October of 1984 but I don’t know what the *Z and 7 are for, except it might be the 7th pipe made in October. Their pipes are made of Grecian Plateau grade briar (read below*). The bowl on this shows off a simple classic profile, stout shank and big apple shape bowl. The bottom surround is fine straight grain, the color is a natural golden tan, with no fills and no issues. The inside of the bowl is well-seasoned, plus the briar is also seasoned for almost 40 years, so it should be an excellent smoker. The draw hole is bottom center, and the pipe draws well. The stem on this pipe is high quality black vulcanite, and has just one tiny mark on the bottom of the button. The logo is inset, with a clear acrylic on top of a black background with white star. The pipe weighs in about 1.8 ounces. Comes with the original cloth pouch. Carefully reconditioned, polished and is ready to smoke.

I offer Pipe Consignment, message me for details, if interested!
Please see my other Auctions! Combined shipping of multiple items no problem, wait until auctions end to pay, and I’ll send a combined invoice! Additional cleaning may be desired on some pipes, as I focus on the exterior reconditioning and reaming, and leave the shank interior to the new owner, pipe stand not included with any pipe. Click photos BELOW to enlarge, and see more photos! Returns OK before you smoke any pipe.

*In 1978, the American Smoking Pipe Company was founded by Mark Tinsky and his friend Curt Rollar. In 1990, Curt left the company to peruse other activities, but Mark continued on by himself building a solid reputation using quality briar from Greece and stem blanks imported from Italy, offering collectors a vast assortment of models and finishes. In short, his pipes are beautiful and well-made pieces that produce a taste beyond reproach. They are solid, handmade pipes for an affordable price.
Grecian Plateaux briar, personally selected by Mark, is used in all American pipes. The briar has been carefully aged for years after its initial curing in a carefully controlled environment. In selecting the briar for producing his pipes, only the finest blocks are selected yielding a large quantity of straight grains. All pipes are stamped with a code, the first numbers identifying the date and the following letters containing Mark’s initials.
