Antique Native American feather fan. A flat fan comprised of feathers, and a hand stitched, beaded (black & white colors) in triangular patterns, with an animal hide handle. Fans like this example have been used by both males and females in powwows, peyeote rituals and other ceremonies. Size: 19” long & 8,3” wide.

Fans are important articles of Native American heritage that are steeped in tradition and indigenous beliefs. Some are regarded as prayer fans that serve as a gift intended to heal the heart - making them popular as shamanic smudging fans. Thought to possess considerable healing power, prayer fans are believed to send prayers to the heavens.

This amazing piece of Native American history is being sold exactly as shown in the photographs displayed. This fan does have obvious wear from use on the handle, as the leather is a bit lifted, but could most likely be repaired easily. Condition of the feathers are as photographed.
