Decals: The sheet contains decals for four United States Army Air Force (USAAF) Boeing B-17G Flying Fortress aircraft, two serving with the 323rd Bombardment Squadron (BS), 91st Bombardment Group (BG), 8th Air Force (AF), the 324th BS, 91st BG, 8th AF and the 772nd BS, 463rd BG, 15th AF. Includes Black and Yellow bureau numbers, Yellow aircraft codes for the fuselage, individual Yellow aircraft code letters for the lower tail surfaces, nose art in the form of White NINE O NINE titles alongside artwork of a ‘Christopher Columbus’ cartoon caricature thumbing his nose at the Germans riding on an Orange piece of ordnance on a Black disc for the nose of the first 323rd BG, 91st BG B-17, Red outlined in White OUT HOUSE MOUSE titles alongside artwork of a Grey ‘Jerry the Mouse’ standing next to wooden shack on a Yellow-Orange disc for the nose of the second 323rd BG, 91st BG B-17, Red shadowed in White LITTLE Miss Mischief titles alongside a standing nude holding a ‘dog’ and White JOKER titles for the tail surfaces of the 463rd BG B-17 - click the links left, 323rd BS, 91st BG B-17 unit identification markings in the form of Black ‘A’ letters within White p triangles for the tail surfaces and the outer starboard upper wing surfaces, 324th BS, 91st BG B-17 unit identification markings in the form of White ‘A’ letters within Black p triangles for the tail surfaces and the outer starboard upper wing surfaces and 463rd BG B-17 unit identification markings in the form of Black Y letters within White inverted ‘pie’ shaped backgrounds ºu, several styles of White, Red and Black mission markings, victory markings and for Black data blocks. Note that the sheet does not contain Stars and Bars.

 

There are sufficient decals to complete all four B-17G Flying Fortress aircraft from the sheet using kit Stars and Bars. The two 323rd BS, 91st BG B-17’s are finished in natural metal overall with Red vertical bands on the tail surfaces, Red stabilizer surfaces and Red wing tip surfaces. The 324th BS, 91st BG B-17 is finished in natural metal overall with a mid-fuselage section in Olive Drab uppers over Neutral Grey lowers and a central Red tail section.

 

Also includes a single sided A4 black and white placement guide showing side, upper and lower profiles.

1. B-17G Flying Fortress, OR R, “NINE O NINE”, 323rd BS, 91st BG, Bassingbourne, England, Sept 1944, R 423I909 Ap (This aircraft set a record for 8th AF B-17 bombers by completing 140 combat missions, 126 without having to turn back for mechanical reasons, and flew over 1,100 combat hours)

2. B-17G Flying Fortress, OR N,OUT HOUSE MOUSE, 323rd BS, 91st BG, Bassingbourne, England, Aug 1944, N 423I636 Ap (On 16th August 1944, while on a bombing mission to the Siebel Aircraft Factory at Halle, this aircraft became the first heavy bomber to be attacked by a German jet. After being damaged by a Fw 190 and Bf 109 it fell out of the formation and headed back towards England. Two Messerschmitt Me 163 Komet’s soon attacked it, the first jet missed the B-17, and the second Me 163 Komet, after flying alongside the bomber for a few minutes, was pounced on by two P-51’s and shot down)

4. B-17G-25-BO Flying Fortress, 772nd BS, 463rd BG, 15th AF, Foggia, Italy, 7th July, 1944 JOKER,423I684 Y ºu (Shot down over Vlcany, Slovakia during a mission to Blechhammer)

 

Condition: average, please note that this sheet WILL need coating with liquid decal film before use, hence the starting price. The larger unit decals are cracked especially the black elements and some of the larger decals have ink smudges – see listing image. Worth the price for the nose art, albeit I refer you back to the sentence above.
