This original pre-Civil War United States Army Haversack was issued from roughly the 1830's up to the late 1850's.  It came from the same estate as the Civil War and Indian War leather items I am selling.  The former owner obtained the haversack from Bannerman's in New York when he was a young man in the late-1950's.

The haversack is made of a heavy cotton or canvas like material.  It is hand sewn with the correct metal nipple buttons.  The reverse of the areas where the buttons have been sewn have been reinforced with a second piece of material to ensure they don’t pop or rip off.  The haversack measures approximately 14 inches wide and 11 ½ inches tall.  The original shoulder strap is present.  It has a scalloped flap that folds over the pack and attaches to the buttons on the front.  There are no tags or markings.  This is an original item and not a reproduction.  You can tell the difference by the buttons, the reinforced stitching to the buttons, and the width of the bag.

While the haversack is in good shape and is completely intact, it does show age.  It has some snags, staining, and soiling.   Please check out the large photos I have posted and judge condition for yourself.
