Tony Patrioli
Milan-based photographer Antonio Patrioli made his mark as an artist who is vero omosessuale e vero italiano (truly gay and truly Italian), embracing both with an unapologetic enthusiasm and pride that informs and invigorates his work. His earliest amateur male nude photographs from the mid-1960s were purely for his own personal delight and the models were his lovers. But, when he soon began to receive offers to publish his photographs commercially in the mid-1970s, he completed a course in advertising photography in Milan and gained respect and professional standing. Patrioli has several books to his credit, including Mediterraneo, Lo specchio di Narciso and Made in Italy, and has been widely published in several Italian magazines over the past three decades, including OS and Doppio Senso. His work has been exhibited worldwide and critics have called him the "New von Gloeden" because of his subject matter and nationalistic pride. The Patrioli photographs that we have acquired date from the 1970s and early '80s and many were used for publication. They feature handsome Italian men, at times alone, other times in very intimate and playful duos and threesomes.

The approximately 7-by-9½-inch vintage photograph is printed on heavy stock and is in very good condition. Quality and clarity are very good.
