Medieval France Valence 12th – 13th century HAMMERED CRUSADER COIN silver OBOL - Collector's grade!

This tiny 13.5mm silver hammered coin is a French Valence Obol and is 0.31g of fine silver. In 1275 the bishoprics of Valence and Die were merged. The obverse legend refers to St. Apollinaris, the patron saint of the cathedral in Valence.

Valence Obols and Deniers are found in significant quantities in hoards from the Crusader possessions in the east.


Condition: Collector’s grade for this type which is uncleaned and retains a natural brightness to the silver-grey antique patina.
