ITALIAN INDEPENDENCE BIRTH OF GARIBALDI TOKEN DATED 1807 - High collector's grade for the type!

This small 14mm collector’s grade brass medal commemorates Giuseppe Garibaldi, the man who united Italy in the 1860's.

Garibaldi was born in Nice the 4th of July 1807. At that time, Nice belonged to the kingdom of Sardinia. When Italy was united by Garibaldi under the king of Sardinia, Victor Emanuel II of Savoye, he received the help of the French emperor, Napoleon III. In return for his support, Napoleon III asked and received the county of Nizza (Nice) and the duchy of Savoye, which were united with France.
