RARE 1838 France MAISON ROYALE DE CHARENTON HOSPITAL REBUILT BRONZE MEDAL BY BARRE

- ex-Hugo Harpur-Crewe (1858-1905) collection with handwritten medal envelope

This rare 52mm heavy (63.04g) French bronze medal was engraved by famous medallist Jean Jacqoise Barre (1793-1855) to commemorate the laying of the foundation stone by Louis Philippe on 3rd October 1838 for the reconstruction of the Maison Royale de Charenton psychiatric hospital.


Obverse: Laureated bust facing left. Legend around: "LOUISE PHILIPPE I - ROI DES FRANCAIS". Signed under the bust: "BARRE".
