PRESIDENT-ELECT ABRAHAM LINCOLN photographic portrait taken in SPRINGFIELD ILLINOIS on January 13th, 1861.

The original photographer credited with this work is C. S. German. It is thought to have been his work, but there have been doubts in recent research. The IMAGERY is EXCEPTIONAL in DETAILING and QUALITY. President Elect Lincoln's PHOTOGRAPHIC PORTRAIT, not an album print or engraved image, is AMAZING in its SIMPLICITY. This is the very FIRST PORTRAIT taken of the great emancipator SPORTING his NEW WHISKERS....( Please see pics for more added information..)

Lincoln's portrait is encased in a BEAUTIFUL 1/6th Plate VICTORIAN CASE. The exterior and ORNATE pressed LEATHER EMBOSSING on Wood is still sharp to the touch, though it does show some ware... There is an older spine repair, which is common with Victorian cases from the 19th century. The BRASS LATCH/ HOOK locks easily and opens easily for display. The 1/6th plate casing measures..( 3.5 x 3 )

When closed and ( 7  X  3) when OPEN for DISPLAY. The BRASS interior MATTING is UNDAMAGED with NO CORROSION. The embossed ornate matting is still BRIGHT and COLORFUL. The CRUSHED RED VELVET is still SOFT to the touch. The GLASS is Original without Chipling or Yellowing.

Mr. Higgins was a true RENAISSANCE MAN of the 19th CENTURY. The gallery backing is printed in bold black ink and EASILY LEGIBLE. There is some age soiling but no foxing. The overall EYE APPEAL of this INCREDIBLE HISTORICAL RARITY is SUPERB.
