GROUP ANTIQUE GERMAN

FROZEN CHARLOTTES

&

A TINY DOLLS HEAD

The three tiny full bodied porcelain

dolls are these days referred to as

“ Frozen Charlottes “

and this style of tiny dolls head is

often put into this category as well.

Frozen Charlotte apparently is a

romanticised 20th century term

for these tiny little dolls that were

sold as Penny Dolls when they

were being produced from 1880s

up to 1920 in Germany.

They were just affordable little

dolls for the less affluent child to

play with in the bath or out in the

garden where most likely they

were often lost and dug up

decades later by someone else.

Reputedly they are also often dug

up from around the factory sites in

Germany that produced them.

These Penny dolls were also baked

into cakes so this wouldn’t help

their condition either.

I have grouped these together as

they are a little bedraggled (I’ve

seen worse though) but still

 very sweet.

CONDITION

In reasonable antique condition

with obvious signs of age and use.

No missing limbs or chips as such

but the middle sized full body one

has a large firing crack on its left hip

– see photo.

The smallest full doll’s feet look

like they may have been in

a fire as they’re a bit black.

The photos should give you a

good idea but definitely being sold

 AS IS.

The smallest full doll measures:
