1788 Spade Half Guinea brass jeton George III by Charles Peverelle, Birmingham - Pleasing dark patina!

This small 20mm brass jeton was struck as an imitation 'Spade' Half Guinea by noted gaming token manufacturer Charles Peverelle, Birmingham. These eye-catching jetons were mainly used for card playing games in the 18th century, and they were struck in many varieties, this is one of the harder to find types.

 

Obverse: Legend surrounding Bust of George III.

Lettering: GEORGIVS III DEI GRATIA

 

Reverse: Legend surrounding a crown atop a shield.

Condition: Collector’s circulated grade with natural wear to rim and a pleasing uncleaned rich brown antique patina. Has been pierced in the past for jewellery wearing purposes.
