Famed accordionist-composer Will Glahé makes his third appearance on the Vocalion label with this release, compiling two of his finest Decca albums of the late 1960s/early ’70s. Glahé started out as a pianist and in the 1920s studied conducting and piano in Cologne. His career as an accordionist began almost by accident when, during a recording session, an accordionist was needed. Glahé tried the instrument, found he had a natural affinity for it and all at once the world lost a pianist and gained an accordionist. From there on there was no looking back as Glahé immediately began to build a career as a hugely successful recording artist on his newly chosen instrument. By the late 1960s he was a long-established name on the international music scene, and the albums heard here give a strong indication as to why this was. Both ‘Tango Notturno’ and ‘When the Lilac Blooms Again’ are charming confections featuring Glahé’s virtuoso accordion technique backed by tasteful orchestrations. Throughout 24 delightful tracks Glahé and his orchestra perform beautiful renditions of melodies associated with Germany/Austria such as Oh, Donna Clara, Zwei rote Lippen und ein roter Tarragona, Liebe war es nie, Wir wollen Freunde sein fürs ganze Leben and Wenn der Weiße Flieder Wieder Blüht (When the Lilac Blooms Again). Remastered from the original analogue stereo tapes. First time on CD.
