Farragut's historic battlecry of 1864, "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!" was only a coolly calculated risk, not a passioned battlecry. His lead ship balked in the middle of the battle nearly causing the destruction of the entire wooden division, and just as he was closing in on the Rebel ram Tennessee, one of his best vessels accidentally ran into him. In the "Laurel & Hardy" pandemonium which followed, the ugly monitor Chickasaw quickly secured the battle and spelled doom of the giant rebel Tennessee...
