Obsidian, sometimes referred to as ‘Apache Tears’, is a volcanic glass that was named after Obsess, a Roman who discovered a similar stone. It is found in Italy, Scotland, Mexico and the USA. It contains tiny bubbles of air along the layers which produce interesting effects that result in the many varieties of Obsidian. Mahogany Obsidian contains undulating parts of oxidized Hematite or Magnetite, which are usually colored mahogany brown or brick red within a black-coloured base material.
