Battle of Britain cover signed by Squadron Leader Tony Iveson DFC AE, Spitfire Battle of Britain pilot with Nos 92 & 616 Squadrons and later Lancaster pilot with No 617 Squadron

JS(CC)82 RAF Battle of Britain cover, dual numbered JS(BB)2 as part of our Battle of Britain mini-series, depicting Supermarine Spitfires of No 92 Squadron above the skies of RAF Biggin Hill during the Battle of Britain engaging Bf 109s.

Along side the Distinguished Flying Medal & Bar is shown, which was instituted in 1918 and awarded to NCOs and men of the RAF for courage or devotion to duty while flying on active operations against the enemy. During the Second World War it was extended to the equivalent ranks of the Army and Fleet Air Arm personnel engaged in similar operations. A bar was awarded for a second award.

The cover bears 20p DFC / DFM Royal Mail 1990 Gallantry stamp on front and 7p grey definitive on reverse. Cover has been cancelled with BFPS 2599 postmark 3 June 2000 for the Biggin Hill International Millenium Air Show.

The cover has been hand signed by Squadron Leader Tony Iveson DFC AE who was a Battle of Britain pilot with 616 and 92 Squadrons. He joined No 92 Squadron  in October 1940.  His DFC was awarded when he was serving with the legendary Dambusters squadron when he was a 617 Squadron pilot flying Avro Lancasters in 1944/1945 including the raid which sank the Tirpitz battleship.
