Description

Pearls are most famous for forming in oysters, however Freshwater Pearls are most often formed in mussels and cultured in China or Japan. Freshwater Pearls are often dyed into a variety of colours including white, pink, silver, cream, green, blue and black. They also come in a variety of shapes such as round, rice, potato, nugget, coin, Keshi and stick. The more perfectly round they are, the more desirable and therefore the more expensive they become. Freshwater Pearls have been used in jewellery-making throughout history from Ancient China to Victorian Britain.
