Maiden Flight Concorde 002 1969 FDC cancelled with Filton Postmark

Cover bears Concorde Stamp produced for the First Flight of Concorde 002 and cancelled on the date of the First flight of the 002 9th April 1969 at Filton which was the home of BAC and the Concorde 002. Cover bears address for Philatelic Supplies in Bath.


Concorde 002 was the first British Concorde and was piloted on it's Maiden flight by Captain Brian Trubshaw. Concorde was the first passenger aircraft to achieve Mach 2 and graced the skies for 34 years until October 2003 when it was removed from Commercial flights. Concorde 001 was built by Aerospatiale at their factory at Toulouse and 002 was built by BAC at Filton in Bristol. The first flight of 001 (F-WTSS) was made on 2nd March 1969 which was followed by 002 (G-BSST) on 9th April 1969. Concorde 002 is now found at the Fleet Air Arm Museum at Yeovilton.
Concorde was a Delta Wing aircraft which was powered by four Olympus Rolls Royce Engines and was only by Air France and BOAC (Later British Airways.) Singapore Airways livery was painted onto one of the BA Concorde's during Concorde's heyday in the lates 1970's early 1980's. Concorde was never produced in large numbers due to it's sonic boom which occurred when it transited to Supersonic speeds.
