". Postcard in excellent overall condition for age.

217355 Sapper Thomas Byrne was born in 1882, at Askam - in - Furness. He enlisted on 19.12.1916 into the Royal Engineers. He was a skilled Bricklayer and gave his address as; 18 Grange Rd, Runcorn. Posted to the RE Depot. Transferred to the 3/1st Cheshire Field Company on 9.1.1917 [ at Bungay ]. Married Bertha Emma Potter on 8.2.1918. Served briefly with the 546th Field Company, RE from 10.6.1918 and them from 13.6.1918 with the 441st [ Glamorgan ] Field Company, RE. Joined J Company, RE on 29.11.1918. On discharge ? living at 40 W. Ashton Street, Eccles New Road, Weaste, Manchester.
