As the front of the car is the ideal place for a lip spoiler or a splitter as these serves to increase the amount of downforce at the front of the car. The airstream is brought to stagnation above the splitter or lip spoiler by an air dam that causes an area of high pressure. Below the splitter, the air is redirected away from the stagnation zone and is accelerated which causes low pressure. This combined with the high pressure over the splitter, creates downforce. The larger the area of the splitter or so called a front lip spoiler, the more downforce can be generated. Some high performance cars actually uses an additional diffuser immediately behind the front bumper to help create more downforce. The air extracted by this diffuser is exhausted through vents underneath the car.
