- Introduced in late 1960 with the U.S. Navy, the McDonnell Douglas F-4 has been an incredibly versatile and effective aircraft for numerous national militaries around the world. Amazingly still in operational service after more than a half century, the Phantom II performs countless roles including interceptor, reconnaissance, fighter-bomber, and 'Wild Weasel' radar destroyer. The aircraft saw extensive use for the U.S. military during the Vietnam War, serving as the principal air superiority fighter, holding the distinction of being the last 20th century warbird to achieve 'ace' status. More than 5,000 units have been manufactured, seeing action in more than ten countries. This 1/72 scale, Hobby Master, die cast model - an authentic reproduction of a recon RF-4E as it appeared during the 1985 NATO 'Tiger Meet' - features that aircraft's signature striped paint scheme, engraved panel lines, detailed afterburning exhaust nozzles, an opening canopy, two removable crew figures, a well-equipped cockpit with detailed instrumentation, full weapons complement, optional-position landing gear, and a display stand. Measures approximately 10.5 in long with a 6.5 in wingspan.
