Utilizing both Spiral X and Hi-Power X blank construction processes, Shimano’s new Game TypeJ rods offer both all-day fishing comfort from the lightweight blanks, and also the blank strength for inshore and offshore jigging situations. The series includes 10 rods – three conventional and seven spinning models – to fish Shimano Butterfly and other vertical drop jigs in weights from 180 grams (6.3 ounces) to 300 grams (10.5-ounces) when targeting tuna, grouper, snapper and sea bass. The one-piece Game TypeJ (GTYP) jigging rods feature reinforced blank strength and torsional rigidity from the Spiral X construction, a process providing a thin wall, extremely lightweight design that rejects ovalization when you are hooked into a big fish. Hi-Power X construction comes into play by eliminating blank twist during the fight. All with Shimano’s exclusive CI4+ material reel seats contributing to more power and sensitivity.

Spiral X Construction
By rolling carbon tape both on the inside and outside of the blank, running in different directions to form an ‘X’ pattern, this unique construction process provides for reinforced torsional and compression rigidity. The design contributes to a lightweight, thin wall blank, one that rejects ‘ovalization’ so rod strength is exceptional under load.
Hi-Power X Construction
Made with hoop and axial materials, carbon tape is added in a 45-degree ‘X’ pattern on the outside of the blank. The tape adds torsional rigidity to the rod blank, eliminating blank twist for both longer casting distance and greater casting accuracy.
CI4 Reel Seat
Contributes to the overall lightness of the rod, plus increases sensitivity from the rod through the reel seat to an angler’s hand.
